Microsoft announces Xbox 360 Elite
The rumors were true after all. Software giant Microsoft has finally announced their updated and upgraded Xbox 360 gaming console.
This upgraded edition has been named Xbox 360 Elite and it features a 120-gigabyte hard drive and High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) port.
Microsoft said that this updated Xbox 360 console would be available on April 29 in the United States and Canada for $479.99. Peter Moore, corporate vice president for the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft spoke on this new release: “Today’s games and entertainment enthusiast has an insatiable appetite for digital high-definition content.”
Microsoft’s regular Xbox 360 console features a 20 GB hard drive and it sells for $399. The company claims that the Elite edition has space to hold a library of arcade games and thousands of songs in addition to high-definition TV shows and movies. This is good for gamers who download a lot of stuff from the Xbox LIVE online service.
Microsoft would continue to sell the existing versions of the Xbox 360 console. For gamers who want to upgrade, they are offering the detachable 120 gigabyte hard drive for $179.99.
Peter Dille, a Sony Computer Entertainment America senior vice president of marketing had this to say on their competitor’s move: “We’re scratching our heads. They’re fragmenting their product offering and fragmenting their consumer base.”
