Sony might launch an 80GB version of Playstation 3

While Microsoft has just announced their updated Xbox 360 Elite gaming console which features a 120 GB hard disk, Sony is rumored to be considering launching a new updated Playstation 3 console with an 80 GB hard disk.

The company has reportedly filed documents to the U.S. Federal Communications Commission to notify the FCC of a change to the game console’s Bluetooth module. The filing talks about a new model. It says: “The model CECHE01 to be added by the difference of the capacity of hard disk.” The new model talked about here has an 80 GB hard disk.

Sony’s current generation of Playstation 3 console ships in 2 versions: 20 GB and 60GB. Interestingly, the hard disk market is growing at a rapid pace and we already have solutions touching 750 Gigs of hard disk. The company has officially declined to comment on these latest rumors in the market.

However, with Microsoft launching their Xbox 360 with a bigger hard disk, it is only natural for Sony to follow the same patch. Especially with both the companies offering HD content for download from the web.
