Sony updates PSP firmware to expand video support

Japanese consumer electronics maker Sony has now released an updated firmware for their Playstation Portable device.

The latest updated firmware is now version 3.30. Users can download the latest edition from the Sony’s website.

The company said that this updated firmware would add support for H.264-encoded video saved at 720 x 480 pixels in the PSP. The device would also be able to show thumbnail images of video.

Sony PSP also gets improved support for more PlayStation Network titles. These are essentially the games released for the first generation Sony Playstation gaming console which are now sold on Sony’s PlayStation 3’s online network.

They have also now added a new feature “Use Wireless Hotspot” which enables the gamers to utilize public Wi-Fi connections in order to play games against other PSP users online. This is similar to how the Nintendo DS works.

The company is going into collaboration with T-Mobile and the two companies are providing PSP users with six months complimentary service at T-Mobile HotSpot locations.
