Hewlett Packard developing ‘Game On’ for Online Gaming on PCs
World’s largest personal computer maker Hewlett Packard wants a part of the online gaming industry. The company has showcased their ‘Game On’ technology designed specifically for the personal computer users.
HP said that their HP Labs research center is developing technology that could be incorporated into next-generation personal computers that play interactive video games designed for the broadband era.
They are hoping that this new technology would enable them to take on console based online gaming services like the Xbox Live.
The company also showcased the prototypes of gaming technologies, including gaming PCs from VoodooPC.
Rahul Sood, chief technology officer of HP’s global gaming business unit added that they could offer a premium line of gaming PCs priced higher than its current line of HP and Compaq branded PCs, but lower than VoodooPC’s custom-made models.
Rob Enderle, lead analyst with technology research firm The Enderle Group spoke about HP’s plans: “The buyer may say they don’t want one and that is the risk when you make a game changer. You make a guess at where the market is going and you get there first. If you guess wrong you’re there all by yourself.”
