Microsoft recalling Xbox Cables over security issues

Software giant Microsoft generally has problems with security flaws and bugs in the applications. However, this time they have got hardware problems. Their very successful Xbox gaming machine has an issue with the power cords. Reports say that they are prone to catching fire! As a result, the company has to release a statement recalling a lot of Xbox videogame consoles to fix the issue by replacing the cord.

The number of consoles under consideration for recall is in the range of 14.1 million, which amounts to around 70% of all consoles sold. They had to take this decision after reports of fires that caused minor burns and property damage were escalated to the company. The company mentioned that around 30 customers reported the problem related to their Xbox machines.

Microsoft representative Peter Moore told the media that the company knew about the problem for quite sometime and was preparing for this mega callback of the consoles by producing the required components in mass quantities.

The recall affects Xboxes outside Europe that were made before Oct. 23, 2002. In Europe, the machines affected were manufactured before Jan. 31, 2004. The company however has not mentioned how much the callback would be costing them.
