Sony considering a PS3 version with larger storage capacity
Sony was offering the largest hard disk with a gaming console till recently. Then, Microsoft surprised the market by launching their Xbox 360 Elite model with a 120 GB disk.
Sony’s Playstation 3 comes loaded with a 60 GB hard disk. They seem to have more or less discontinued the 20 GB model.
The company has now said that they are considering launching PlayStation 3 (PS3) game consoles with larger hard disk drive capacity.
This would come handy for those gamers who download a lot of extra media from the internet and from the Sony’s online store.
Sony Computer Entertainment spokesman Satoshi Fukuoka added in a statement: “For users who vigorously store in the PS3, 20-giga is probably going to be too small, and even 60-giga may not be big enough eventually.”
He added: “We are not likely to change its core components and functions such as the Cell, RSX, Blu-ray drive and network capability. But outside that realm, addition and deletion is quite possible.”
