Sony could cut the prices of their Playstation 3 gaming console

Nintendo Wii has become the fastest selling gaming console of the three next generation gaming consoles. Microsoft continues to sell a large number of Xbox 360 as well. It’s Sony the market leader which is under all the pressure to make a comeback.

The company has now said that they are considering several options including cutting the cost of the console as they aim to strengthen the platform and expand its penetration.

Sony said in a statement that both pricing and production volumes are under review. The console is now on sale in all the major markets around the world. The company however warned that the price cut if they decide on it is still a couple of months away.

Incidentally, Sony’s European division has also just revealed that they are considering cutting some jobs to streamline their operations in the region.

The company is also working on switching to the 65-nanometer line to manufacture the Cell processor which powers the PS3 gaming console. These chips would be cheaper to make and would be smaller in size.
