Wii gamers should warm up before a long round of gaming
British experts are claiming that gamers intending to play long round of games on their Nintendo Wii gaming console should consider warming up.
They claim that the Wii gaming console is as effective as more traditional videogames for burning calories and this means that careless usage of the console could result in injuries like “Wii elbow” which is similar to the inflamed elbow joint common among tennis players.
Tim Hutchful, from the British Chiropractic Association (BCA) added: “Gamers should treat a ‘Wii session’ like any form of exercise and warm-up adequately beforehand to prevent stiffness and possible injuries. Any unaccustomed exercise or activity lays yourself bare to problems that could occur from prolonged periods of active movements, so treat it like a gym work-out, warming-up and cooling down.”
Nintendo itself has a cautionary warning on their website related to Wii game play saying that “playing video games can make your muscles, joints, skin or eyes hurt”.
