Sony has released their latest firmware for the Sony Playstation 3 gaming console.

Gamers can now download and install this update to get Facebook connectivity on their consoles.

They can now update their Facebook profiles based on the activities performed on PS3 and inside games.

Facebook is accessible through the new Facebook Settings under the Account Management section on PS3.

Sony is working on releasing a new firmware update for the games on Playstation 3.

This new firmware update would add Facebook functionality to the PS3.

Games would be able to connect their Playstation Network account to their Facebook profile.

Sony Playstation 3 would be able to update your Facebook Status if you so desire.

Sony has collaborated with Netflix to bring movie streaming to their PS3 gaming console.

The company said that this service would be free to existing customers of Netflix in the US market.

They would be able to stream movies and other digital content using their PlayStation 3 gaming console at no extra cost.

Sony said: “While gaming is clearly our core DNA I think we felt very confident three years ago when we debuted PlayStation 3 that this was going to be a device that was going to mean much more than gaming.”

Netflix is also available on the Xbox 360 gaming console but users are required to be a Xbox Live Gold member to use it.

Sony is providing the same feature at no extra cost so the deal benefits the PS3 gamers.

Sony has announced that they are soon going to offer a new variant of their Sony PlayStation 3 gaming console.

This new edition would feature a 250GB drive and it would retail for around USD 350.

The current version of the PS3 console ships with a 120GB drive and costs USD 300.

Sony is aiming to boost the sales of this gaming console this coming holiday season with the launch of this new variant with large storage space.

Sony recently dropped the price of their Playstation 3 gaming console.

The company launched a marketing campaign highlighting this aspect.

The ad featured a pseudo Sony representative named Kevin Butler (Director of Rumor Confirmation).

He is asked about the online rumors of a price cut on PS3 by Rumor Monger Bernie Buncalan.

He responds: “You can’t believe everything you read on the Internet. Otherwise I’d be a Nigerian millionaire by now.”

He is of course referring to the infamous Nigerian 419 scammers.

Nigerian government is offended by the ad. The government is demanding an apology from the company: “Nigeria also demands an unconditional apology from Sony Corporation for this deliberate negative campaign against the country’s image and reputation”.

Industry sources claim that both Microsoft and Sony are working on new variants which could appear in the market before the start of the holiday season.

Both the companies are likely to unveil new versions of their gaming consoles with larger hard disk drives.

Incidentally, both Microsoft and Sony have recently dropped the prices of their existing versions of the two gaming consoles.

This makes it easier for them to launch higher end editions featuring more storage space.

Sony has just showcased their upcoming slimmer edition of the Playstation 3 which would become the only version available in the market.

The company also had more good news for their fans.

Sony Playstation 3 is now cheaper by around USD 100 in the US market. It would now retail for USD 299.

This puts it closer to the price tag of the Nintendo Wii gaming console which still sells for USD 250 in the US market.

He was referring to the recent statement by Robert Kotick, the CEO of video game publisher Activision Blizzard.

Kotick has famously said that they might consider discarding the PS3 platform in the coming years if the prices of the console are not dropped.

Sony PS3 continues to remain the most expensive console on sale in the market.

Market sources claim that Sony would totally overhaul their Playstation 3 gaming console interface with the release of firmware 3.0.

Sony recently released the 2.8 firmware update for the Playstation 3 gaming console.

This update is being compared to the Microsoft’s New Xbox Experience update for the Xbox 360 gaming console.

Some of the new features that are likely to be introduced with this new rumoured update are:

Ability to rate other gamers on the network
Ability to report bad activities by others on the network
Ability to download updates and patches in the background
Ability to output HDMI video and digital optical audio simultaneously
