Rage unlikely to support dedicated servers

John Carmack has admitted that they are unlikely to provide support for dedicated servers in their upcoming videogame title Rage.

Modern Warfare 2 is already a high profile game which has a similar limitation.

Carmack said: “It’s not cast in stone yet, but at this point no, we don’t think we will have dedicated servers.”

id Software has however still not revealed what kind of a system they would use for online gaming with Rage.

Carmack added: “The great thing is we won’t have to be a pioneer on that. We’ll see how it works out for everyone else.”

One thing is pretty clear however… This is not a good news for hardcore gamers who like to run their own dedicated servers for online gaming.

Disney Epic Mickey game coming to Nintendo Wii next year!

Mickey Mouse is set to become a videogame hero as Disney has announced a game for the Nintendo Wii gaming console.

Mickey Mouse would feature in the Disney Epic Mickey game that would be launched sometime next year.

Videogame creator Warren Spector spoke about this game: “We’ve pulled Mickey out of the world of cartoons which is where he belongs and feels comfortable and safe and we pull him into a world we call the Cartoon Wasteland.”

Disney Interactive Studios general manager Graham Hopper had this to say on this new game: “This started from a belief that I had when I came into this business a few years back, that we were not treating Mickey properly in the videogames space and that he had a lot more potential than we had unlocked.”

Excitebike coming to Nintendo Wii next month!

This is great news for the fans of Excitebike.

The game is coming to Nintendo Wii next month.

It would be released on November 9.

The developers have improved some elements but it is essentially the same fun game it was.

Electronic Arts has announced that they have sold more than 100 million copies of the games from their Need For Speed franchise.

The company is celebrating this achievement by offering EA Store discount codes for 25% off any Need For Speed title.

To win these discount coupons, you would need to leave a comment on the official EA Facebook fan page before Thursday, October 29th.

It’s hard to believe that NFS franchise is around 16 years old!

Assassin’s Creed short film to be released on YouTube

Ubisoft has announced that they would release a short movie based on their videogame title Assassin’s Creed on YouTube.

This movie would be released on YouTube on October 27.

It has been created by the Hybride Technologies studio in Canada. YouTube would highlight this movie on their homepage on the release day.

Hybride has previously worked on hit Hollywood movies like 300 and Sin City.

Ubisoft said in a statement on this short movie: “The aim is to bring together videogames and Hollywood. Ubisoft is excited to share a new Assassin’s Creed experience with the public”.

Ubisoft chief executive Yves Guillemot added: “The Assassin’s Creed Lineage film series is part of Ubisoft’s ongoing efforts to reinforce its intellectual properties by bringing them to multiple entertainment mediums, providing gamers with a more immersive experience.”

Rock Band coming soon to Apple App Store

Electronic Arts has confirmed that they are all set to launch a mobile version of the popular videogame Rock Band on the Apple App Store.

It is expected to arrive by the end of the current month.

The company spoke about this version in a statement: “Start out playing in grungy dives and work all the way up to stadium-rock stardom.”

The version for the iPhone would feature tracks from Smashing Pumpkins, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Foo Fighters, and Blink-182.

It would be Bluetooth enabled letting three players to play it together on their iPhones or iPod Touch.

A mobile version of Rock Band is already available on some Verizon branded devices in the US market.

FIFA 10 sells 1.7 million units in first week!

Electronic Arts has claimed that their recently launched videogame title Fifa 10 has now become the fastest selling sports game of all times.

The company managed to sell close to around 1.7 million copies in the first week of its availability in the market.

EA added: “We were confident that FIFA 10 would be a hit, and this week fans across Europe have shown just how much they love this game. We are incredibly proud of FIFA 10 and this kick-off for great, authentic football competition.”
